Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in an assessment?

This depends on the reason for the assessment and would be explained by the therapist ahead of the first appointment. It will involve either a face to face or online session with the child or adult being assessed, this session may take from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. Both standardised and non standardised tools are used by our therapists to gather the information required, sometimes the assessment will involve only play-based sessions with the child or observations only.

Additional information will be gathered from parents, educational staff, and other professionals, if relevant, which may involve telephone consultations and the completion of questionnaires.

How much does an assessment cost?

OT Therapy – £96
OT Standard Assessment – £535
OT Specialised Assessment – £650

What happens in a therapy session?

You will have agreed the therapy goals with the assessing therapist ahead of the first session. The therapist or therapy assistant will provide you with the details of the activities ahead of the session so you can prepare your child.  In the first session your child’s skill level within a number of tasks related to the programme will be recorded as a benchmark so that their progress can be monitored throughout the programme.

The session activities will be child friendly and specifically designed around your child’s needs, tasks will be graded in order to ensure your child is successful and also regularly challenged to support improvements in their skill levels. The therapist or therapy assistant will provide you with regular feedback related to your child’s engagement and progress towards the agreed goal for therapy.
