Therapy Services  FAQ’s

Where will my child be seen?

We offer options of online telehealth and face-to-face visits (at home / in school/ in nursery). Online sessions can often be set up quickly and are fun and interactive, and reduce travel costs. For Face-to-face sessions The Owl Centre will find a therapist suitable to your needs within your location.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. You are invited to make an enquiry to Owl Centre as a self-referral.

If intervention is appropriate, your therapist will discuss with you how to share information (e,g, previous reports) or liaise with other professionals.

What if I am unsure if assessment or therapy is appropriate?

You can book an Initial Support Consultation. This is a 30-minute session (for £30) to discuss your concerns and needs with a clinician, where you will be directed to the most appropriate pathway – this may be assessment / therapy / advice / resources/ further support.

How much do the sessions cost – and when / how do I pay?

  • The cost varies depending on the intervention required. Please see the Therapy Services page with a Price List and discuss this with your therapist.
  • Payment will be invoiced for specific programmes (where there is a block of sessions offered) prior to the start date. For ongoing direct therapy sessions you will be invoiced at the end of the month.
  • You pay The Owl Centre direct (not the therapist).
  • You can pay through bank transfer (BACs), which is the most convenient and most secure method.

Can I pay through insurance?

You need to discuss this with your insurance company – you may be able to claim for the cost of therapy if you have private health insurance.  The Owl Centre contract will be with you; therefore you will be expected to pay The Owl Centre for any intervention and then arrange a claim with your Insurance company. You are advised to check the extent and terms of your insurance cover before making an appointment.

Can I see an Independent (The Owl Centre) therapist at the same time as an NHS therapist?

Yes you can see an Independent therapist whilst on an NHS waiting list or receiving NHS treatment. Having private treatment should not affect your NHS entitlement. Best practice is for all therapists to work together.

My child also sees other professionals – will you work together?

With your permission (you will complete a consent form when starting therapy intervention) we will work collaboratively with any professionals that you inform us of. This then means that we can provide a holistic team approach to support you.

How can I find more about my therapist?

All Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists are HCPC registered.

All therapists’ and practitioners’ profiles are on the website – this will tell you about their qualifications,  specialisms and areas of experience.

Are The Owl Centre able to provide a report for an EHCP?

Yes. We have therapists who assess and write EHCP reports with targets – either on an Owl template – or we can use your Local Authority template.

Are The Owl Centre able to provide a report for a Tribunal?

Yes. We have experienced therapists who will be able to provide Tribunal assessments and reports – and attend Tribunals if required.

What does the session fee include?

As well as the time that the therapist / practitioner is with you and the child / young person / adult,  they need to prepare materials and resources for use in sessions, analyse their findings, score any standardised assessments, write clinical notes and liaise with any other professionals as required.

What am I paying for in a therapy session?

Your therapist will use their expertise and professional judgement to differentially diagnose and decide the targets and aims of therapy and the optimal length for the session. There will also be time included for the therapist to write up clinical notes, email any resources and prepare the session (usually 15 minutes) but this will be completed outside of the session.
